Ranger RD9 Survival Knife: High Country Chopper
Ranger RD9 Survival Knife: High Country Chopper Video Clips. Duration : 27.72 Mins.
At 23 ounces, the Ontario Ranger RD9 is a stout blade capable of heavy duty woodscrafting. The 9.5" clip blade is ¼" thick and provides excellent wood batoning capabilities as well. Another is selling point on this large blade is the full-flat ground blades which aids this performance. Control is aided by a small jimped thumb ramp. But I was a bit shocked to see this 5160 steel experience some chipping and edge burring while hammering through some tough wood. The knicks will be ground out during a re-profiling of the blade but this was a surprising development for a non-stainless tool steel blade (and it happened on the first woods outing too). Another downside for some, might be the smallish micarta handle that possesses some sharp transitions and edges that may need the attention of some 400 grit sandpaper. Small handed or gloved users won't find these sharp edges bothersome. A blade of this size and weight however should offer the user more gripping area for both comfort and increased leverage; space is at a premium on this handle. The sheath is standard Ontario for large blade: MOLLE attachments in back (too big of a knife for LBE vest use!), sharpening stone pocket, and a loose plastic insert that will need heat gun modification for snug fit (shown). The Velcro® retention strap is inadequate and should be upgraded with a snap. These distractions aside, the Ranger RD9 proved itself to be a capable blade in the woods and equal to several other competitors in chopping ...

Survival Kit and First Aid kit
Survival Kit and First Aid kit Tube. Duration : 8.95 Mins.
This is a small Altoids style kit that I have developed over a very long time to address the priorities of a survival situation. This kit is designed to supplement a competent degree of knowledge and skills, anyone that puts together a kit like this should never expect to rely on the contents alone without a good degree of skill. This kit is also supplemented with an emergency shelter kit that is a recognized shortfall in this small kit. Please see my other video for the emergency shelter kit.

Prepper WROL Bear Grylls Gerber Survival Sharpener
Prepper WROL Bear Grylls Gerber Survival Sharpener Video Clips. Duration : 14.38 Mins.
My review of the Bear Grylls Gerber Survival Sharpener BLUF, (Bottom Line Up Front) it is good enough for a Bugout bag but not some premium sharpening tool. For the I paid for it, NIB (New In Box), it does the job of being a field sharpening tool for emergency/bugout and survival purposes which is what it is labeled as. It could stand a few improvements like making both diamond grit coated sharpening rods rotate (only the small one does) as well as making the sheath into a handle extension but otherwise is good for keeping your knife sharp. THIS IS NOT A BENCH SHARPENING TOOL. The diamond grit will not last forever, the draw through sharpener is only a temporary sharpening implement. I recommend a good sharpening stone for your bench along with a good sharpening steel and a leather and canvas strop. Since all of that is quite heavy for a Bugout bag or rucksack, this tool along with a good double sided whet stone will have to do.

DIY Survival Cabin For Economic Collapse Episode 10 -Timber Framed Sill Timbers Floor Joist- Video Clips. Duration : 13.40 Mins.
Have you always wanted a small cabin in the woods? Follow Wranglerstar on Facebook for exclusive videos, pictures, & updates. www.facebook.com Episode 10 of the DIY Survival Cabin For Economic Collapse will cover fitting all four corner joints of the sill plate timbers. Working with big timbers is hard and a tight fitting joint takes a lot of time and concentration. The tools I'm using today are two Robert Sorby timber framing chisels. The large "slick" is very old and was givin to me by my old neighbor Hank. I sharpen my timber framing chisels each day before I start working on the frame. If you keep your tools sharp you work will go much smoother. The best sharpening stone I have found for small hand tools like chisels and axes is a 4" two sided stone manufactured by Norton. The two sided stone is more versatile with it's coarse and fine sides. Be sure to apply a few drops of Kerosene or Diesel to the stone. This will prevent the stone from becoming fouled with metal particles. You may also notice I'm using two mallets. The large orange mallet is from Harbor Freight and is shot filled. Filling a mallet head with shot prevents it from bouncing when you strike an object. The smaller red hand mallet is nice for working with the chisels because it does not glance off the wooden handles and is comfortable in the hand. You may have noticed the steel rods I inserted into the corner joints. This is to prevent the frame from coming out of square once I set each corner. I often ...
